The three pillars of the housing benefit amount
Housing benefit is calculated according to a statutory formula that ensures that households with low income receive appropriate support. The following points play the main role:
1. Number of household members
The more people live in your household, the higher the income limits and the eligible maximum rent. All persons who share the living space count.
2. Total income
The gross income of all household members minus certain allowances (e.g. for taxes, social insurance, severe disability or professional expenses) is decisive.
3. Eligible rent
Not the entire rent is covered, but an amount up to a certain maximum limit. Since Housing Benefit Plus, heating costs and climate components are also considered as flat rates.
