Definition and purpose of housing benefit
Housing benefit is a social benefit under the Housing Benefit Act (WoGG). It is not charity, but a legal entitlement for everyone who meets the legal requirements. The purpose of housing benefit is to make housing costs affordable for low-income households and thus economically ensure family-friendly living.
It is provided as state aid to ensure appropriate and family-friendly housing. A distinction is made between the rent subsidy and the load allowance.
