Centralised responsibility for all of Duisburg
Unlike in some other cities, Duisburg has only one central Wohngeld Office. Whether you live in Meiderich, Hamborn, Rheinhausen or Duisburg-Mitte – your application is processed centrally by the Amt für Soziales und Wohnen.
The Duisburg city districts
Duisburg is divided into seven city districts: Duisburg-Mitte, Walsum, Hamborn, Meiderich/Beeck, Homberg/Ruhrort/Baerl, Rheinhausen and Duisburg-Süd. Each district has a district office that can serve as a first point of contact, but for Wohngeld applications only the central Wohngeld Office is responsible.
Specifics in the districts
Rents vary considerably within Duisburg. While the city centre and the south tend to have higher rents, Walsum, Hamborn and parts of Meiderich are more affordable. However, the uniform Mietstufe IV applies for Wohngeld calculation – regardless of the neighbourhood.
